Man has used brick for building purposes for thousands of years.The first bricks, made in areas with warm climates, were mud bricks dried in the sun for hardening. Bricks were made by hand until about 1885. Once the Industrial Revolution broke out, brickmaking machinery was introduced. Nowadays, apart from wood, bricks seem to be a commonly used building material. Consequently, brick and terracotta architecture is dominant in its field with a great development in the brick industry.
